The Feldenkrais Method®

At the heart of the Feldenkrais Method is the idea of intuitive somatics. So to break that down;

Somatics refers to a field of study and practice that focuses on the embodied experience of individuals, particularly in relation to movement, sensation, and bodily awareness. And,

Intuitive refers to the ability to understand or know something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning or analysis. It involves perceiving or grasping insights, ideas, or solutions without relying solely on logical or rational thought processes. Intuition often arises from subconscious knowledge.

So how does that relate to the Feldenkrais Method?

The Feldenkrais Method invites participants to pause and pay attention to breath and movement. Each person that engages in the method holds their own hopes and intentions, some may hope to reduce pain or anxiety, others have an interest in improving their artistry or athleticism, more over, many come with an interest in simply improving life.

Through detailed guided movement sequences, the Feldenkrais Method beckons participants to be present with sensations and feel the results and responses to small movements and changes. And often, over time, people discover that attention to small and quiet things provides an awareness of options, and options provide the possibility for variations, or changes in the way we approach movements or tasks.
